History
The CBT scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors in Taos County. As firm believers in giving back to the community and investing in youth, the ownership of the bank started this program in the mid-1980’s. Since then the program has grown significantly.
Description of Awards
CBT Scholarship
CBT Scholarships are awarded every year to a Taos, Questa and Penasco high school student. Each award is $2,000. The recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, community involvement, and commitment to excellence.
Treasure of Taos Award
The Treasure of Taos award is given to a high school student from Taos County who has gone above and beyond in their pursuit of excellence not just in academics but in commitment to our community. This award is a four year award totaling $4,000.
Eliu E. Romero Entrepreneur Award
The Eliu Romero Entrepreneur Award is given in acknowledgement of our founder who demonstrated incredible perseverance and determination to start Centinel Bank. This award is a four year award totaling $4,000.
Presidential Scholarship
In 2003 the Presidential Scholarship was created in honor of Angel Reyes who was promoted to President of Centinel Bank. The Presidential Scholarship is a four year award totaling $20,000.
Application Process
To apply for any of the Centinel Bank Scholarships, except for the CBT Community Service Scholarship, please complete an application form. Once you have applied for a Centinel Bank Scholarship you will be considered for all of our scholarships. Along with the application form, students must submit a transcript and short essay. All high school seniors in Taos County are eligible to apply. Anyone wanting to nominate a student for the Community Service Scholarship must submit the nomination form. An organization may only nominate one student.
